Filming MA VFX Compositing project

This week we were filming greenscreen shots at Escape Studios for a remote MA VFX Compositing student with the help of UG CG class who mucked in and took on various set roles. ๐Ÿ˜ In exchange they got an impromptu VFX Supervision lesson. ๐Ÿ˜„ Greenscreen will be combined with the Utopian environment created in Blender Unreal Engine and Foundryโ€™s Nuke. This is because we are tired of Dystopian images. ๐Ÿ˜Š

The main shot was of a young lady standing on the balcony (against the green-screen) and looking at the cityscape while drinking a cocktail. She hears footsteps and turns around to smile at her boyfriend who is walking towards her and filming the scene.

The reason we like to Film at Escape Studios is to offer the on set experience to our students and give them an idea of the different roles and tasks on the set. Also they need to be aware of the VFX requirements for certain data that needs to be collected on the shoot and passed on to post-production like lens grids, Macbeth chart, chrome ball, grey ball, HDRIs, data sheet form, set measurements, tracking markers, etc. This is important as we don’t want the classes to be just theoretical but hands on too.

Also VFX is just a small part of creation of a moving image and knowing how it interacts with pre-production, production and post-production is essential for its success.
