VFX Compositing students deliver 60 shots for ‘Odd Socks’ short film

We have greatly enjoyed working on ‘Odd Socks’ short film directed by David Ledger.

“Odd Socks is a crime procedural spoof starring Paterson Joseph and Sandi Toksvig. Set in a world where humans live alongside sock monsters, it follows the exploits of Detective McGuin and his sock monster partner McBride as they race against time to get the truth from their prime suspect.”

It has taken 6 months and 20 UG VFX Compositing students across all 3 years to deliver this gigantic cleanup task that had to be completed over weekends and evenings. The bulk of the work has been removing rigs, wires, tape and the puppeteers holding the puppets. Sometimes we were able to utilize a clean plate and sometimes we had to create it ourselves using both 2D and 3D techniques in Nuke.

It has been a wonderful journey in which students further developed their roto/prep skills in exchange for a film credit.

This would not be possible without the support of The Foundry and the wonderful tools that Nuke offers.

We love helping the independent filmmakers fulfil their dreams and ambitions whenever possible. We are awaiting the film’s release with bated breath.
